CHC Chair Crashes White House Immigration Meeting
Congresswoman Michelle Luján Grisham (D-NM) successfully crashed Tuesday’s bipartisan immigration meeting with Donald Trump. She forced her way in after White House officials refused to invite her. Politico reports that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair, who is running for Governor of New Mexico, rode with House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), who was invited to the 11:30A meeting. Her plan worked. Unfortunately, negotiations did not. Republicans and Democrats remain at odds over "Dreamers" and a border wall. The impasse threatens to stall broader budget talks ahead of the January 19th deadline to fund the government. Nearly two dozen Senate and House members were invited to Tuesday’s meeting, but the WH did not include several House Dems who have been closely involved in the immigration negotiations, including many CHC members. Senator Bob Menéndez (D-NJ) was a bit late returning to the Hill from the immigration meeting because fellow Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) had a little car trouble. Apparently, Tester’s car battery died - and "[f]riends don't leave friends at the White House.” Tester tweeted a picture saying, “When something breaks down-whether it's in Washington or a wheat field-I fix it."
