For years the image of who drives change in our democracy has reflected an old narrative of straight white men in smoky rooms.

The Beat DC blows through that trope.

We’re the only daily political news platform that highlights the people of color driving policy in the nation’s capital and beyond, and the policies that impact communities of color at large.

AOC Presents: Green New Deal, the Movie

AOC Presents: Green New Deal, the Movie

Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has released a short film in support of the Green New Deal, progressive Democrats’ proposal on climate change and the economy. Titled, The Art of the Green New Deal, a tongue-in-cheek nod to Donald Trump’s first autobiography, the film is narrated by Ocasio-Cortez and tells the story from a future where the U.S. “kicked off our social and ecological transformation to save the planet” and actually pulls off a Green New Deal. The Congresswoman warns that policy changes alone will not fight climate change -- as the video shows Miami underwater following a hurricane. In the watercolor depictions that make up the 7:35-minute film, she also tells of a future beyond the Green New Deal that also includes progressive policies including Medicare for All and universal child care. Watch it here.
