DNC Announces Senior Leadership Hires
The DNC has announced three changes to its senior leadership team. Waikinya Clanton has been promoted to Senior Advisor to Chair Tom Pérez, where she will work closely with the DNC’s National Political and Organizing Director Muthoni Kraal on outreach to members of Congress and key stakeholders. She most recently served as the Director of African American Outreach, where she led the Party's initiative to engage and organize with Black women. During her tenure, she engineered the Seat at the Table tour -- a listening and training tour designed to engage and organize with Black women across the country. The 2008 Tougaloo College graduate earned her Master’s at the University of Phoenix. Rachana Desai Martin has been promoted to COO -- a role she has been filling on an interim basis -- where she will oversee the DNC’s operational and administrative infrastructure. Rachana most recently was the Director of Voter Protection and Civic Engagement, where she oversaw the Party’s national voter protection efforts. Prior to that, she served as Senior Federal Policy Counsel at the Center for Reproductive Rights. Rachana held multiple roles under the Obama administration including as Counsel at the Treasury Department and as Special Assistant to the Secretary at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The University of South Carolina graduate earned her law degree at Vanderbilt University. Reyna Walters-Morgan has been named Director of Voter Protection and Civic Engagement. She most recently was a Principal Attorney at Walters-Morgan Law PLLC. Prior to that, Walters-Morgan worked as a Voter Protection Project Manager at Democracy North Carolina. She also served as the Regional Voter Protection Director in Ohio for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. The 1999 UNC-Chapel Hill graduate, who holds a law degree from Howard University, served as a Senior Attorney at the Social Security Administration under President Barack Obama and as an Associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
