Trump Nominee for Top DOJ Post Withdraws After Screaming Match
Federal Prosecutor Jessie Liu has withdrawn from consideration as Associate Attorney General, the third-highest position at the DOJ. There was reportedly a screaming match between Attorney General William Barr and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)over whether on not Liu was conservative enough. A main GOP concern was reportedly that Liu may be too pro-choice and would not be in favor of abortion restrictions. Another issue was her past involvement with the National Association of Women Lawyers. Liu will remain in her post as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. The 46-year-old daughter of Taiwanese immigrants would have been the only woman of color in the department’s top leadership. She would have monitored the DOJ's antitrust and civil rights work, as well as defending the government in litigation. Barr also announced that she will lead the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of United States Attorneys. More here.
