House Dems to Introduce Expanded “Dreamer” Bill
California Democratic Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard is once again leading the effort to protect “Dreamers” and will reintroduce a bill to protect them -- this time with new language providing protections for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients. The Dream and Promise Act would still provide permanent legal protections and a path to citizenship for “Dreamers.” Roybal-Allard will be joined by NY Democratic Congresswomen Nydia Velázquez and Yvette Clarke in leading the charge on the bill. The rollout of Roybal-Allard’s legislation -- expected to come on March 12th -- will also feature House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other party leaders. “TPS and DED protections are included because President Trump’s cruel and reckless actions have increased the urgency to address these issues and protect these individuals in our communities,” Roybal-Allard’s office said. A version of the Dream Act has been introduced in every Congress since 2001. More here.
