Eric Swalwell Announces Chief of Staff
Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who is weighing a 2020 bid, has announced Michael D. Reed as his new Chief of Staff. Reed currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director to Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), where he manages day-to-day operations for the Congresswoman's DC office and serves as her top policy advisor. He previously served as a Policy Advisor for the National Conference of State Legislatures and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, respectively, specializing in economic development, labor, trade, and education policy. Before that, Reed was a Legislative Correspondent for Senator Bob Menéndez (D-NJ) and served as a Political Aide under former NJ Governor Jon Corzine. The Georgetown University graduate starts his new role on March 25th. Fun fact: his wife, Keenan Austin Reed, serves as the Chief of Staff for Congressman Donald McEachin (D-VA). Swallwell on Sunday said he’s “getting close” to a decision about running for president in the already crowded Democratic field, saying he’d make health care and racial equality top issues.
