Barack Obama Will be Joined By John Legend and Steph Curry for MBK Event
Former President Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance will have its first national convening in Oakland later this month, which they are calling MBK Rising! POTUS44 will be joined by NBA player Steph Curry and artist/activist John Legend, among others, for the event to celebrate the achievements of organizations and communities leading the way in reducing youth violence, growing impactful mentorship programs, and improving life outcomes for boys and young men of color. The event, which will take place February 18th-20th, will include a town hall with Obama and Curry. Mainstage sessions will also cover masculinity and the role women and girls have played in this work and the importance of narrative and storytelling. The event marks the fifth anniversary of the initial launch of My Brother’s Keeper, an initiative started by Obama following the death of Trayvon Martin, which is now part of the Obama Foundation. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and San Francisco Mayor London Breed are co-chairing MBK Rising!’s host committee as part of their My Brother’s Keeper Oakland and My Brother & Sister’s Keeper San Francisco initiatives.
