For years the image of who drives change in our democracy has reflected an old narrative of straight white men in smoky rooms.

The Beat DC blows through that trope.

We’re the only daily political news platform that highlights the people of color driving policy in the nation’s capital and beyond, and the policies that impact communities of color at large.

Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib Sign Pledge to Impeach

Congresswomen Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) have signed onto a "Pledge to Impeach" Donald Trump being promoted by the advocacy group, By the People. They’re asking members of Congress to back impeachment efforts, and both lawmakers appear in footage shared by the group in which they can be seen signing the pledge. "Tick tock Individual 1,” Tlaib says in a video. "We’re going to hold everyone accountable to the law, including the President of the United States.” She called to impeach Trump on her first day in Congress in an op-ed last month in the Detroit Free Press. Omar appears in a separate video posted on the group's page. "I think there will be an opportunity once the Muller investigation is finished for us to know,” she says. When asked if she believes the president should be able to violate the constitution, she replied with a decisive “never,” before signing the petition. See the video here.
