Bernie Sanders Hires National Political Director, Deputy Political Director

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) tapped Analilia Mejia as the National Political Director for his 2020 presidential campaign. She most recently served as the Executive Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance. She was previously a Political Director for the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ -- a branch of SEIU headquartered in NYC -- and worked for the New Jersey Immigration Policy Network. Prior to that, Mejia was an organizer with the United Food and Commercial Workers International, UNITE HERE (formerly the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees), and the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union. Mejia holds a Bachelor’s and two Master’s degrees from Rutgers University. Sarah Badawi is now the Deputy Political Director after serving as a Senior Advisor on his exploratory committee. Badawi was previously a Senior Strategist for Legislative Affairs at Progressive Change Campaign Committee, where she led legislative outreach efforts to build support for their policy initiatives. She also worked as a Finance Assistant for Senator Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) senatorial campaign and as a Graduate Fellow for Government Relations and International Trade Policy at Pfizer.
