For years the image of who drives change in our democracy has reflected an old narrative of straight white men in smoky rooms.

The Beat DC blows through that trope.

We’re the only daily political news platform that highlights the people of color driving policy in the nation’s capital and beyond, and the policies that impact communities of color at large.

Dolores Huerta and Barbara Lee Co-Chair Kamala Harris 2020 Campaign

Latinx civil rights icon Dolores Huerta on Friday not only endorsed CA Senator Kamala Harris’ 2020 presidential run, but it was announced that the labor rights activist would co-chair the campaign with Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA). Huerta started the National Farmworkers Association alongside the late César Chávez and has long been an icon in the Chicano movement. Her endorsement came after Lee's, a former Congressional Black Caucus Chair and anti-war and social justice activist. “Senator Kamala Harris is the right leader to expand those opportunities as president, and I am proud to endorse her," Huerta said. "Her vision of uniting a new majority of this country behind a bold, progressive, inclusive agenda is exactly what we should hope for from the next President of the United States." Lee added, "Watching Kamala's career in the East Bay and San Francisco for 20 years, I've witnessed her deep passion for justice and opportunity and I know she will be a president truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.” More here.
