Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL) has named former Bill Nelson and State Department advisor Laura Rodríguez as her Chief of Staff, Daniel Horton-Díaz as her District Chief of Staff, and Sebastian Silva as Communications Director -- making her staff 50% Latinx. Rodríguez worked for the State Department's Legislative Affairs Bureau during the Obama administration where she was the point person for the House of Representatives. The Florida International University graduate, who completed her Master's from American University in 2012, also worked for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Horton-Díaz was most recently the Florida State Director for Access Democracy at The Leadership Conference Education Fund. The 2009 Kennesaw State grad, who completed law school at Florida International University in 2015, also worked as a Legislative Aide in the Florida State Legislature after an unsuccessful run for State Rep. Silva joins from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, where he served as the House campaign arm’s Digital Press Secretary.
