Planned Parenthood Hires Names SVP of Communications and Culture
Planned Parenthood Federation of America has added Melanie Roussell Newman as SVP of Communications and Culture. She most recently served as the Chief Communications Officer for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, where she oversaw the expansion of the communications department and was responsible for shaping communications strategy across all legal defense fund practice areas, including the Thurgood Marshall Institute. Prior to that, Newman was the Director of Public Affairs at the DOJ where she served as Senior Advisor to and Spokeswoman for former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Before the DOJ, Newman was the Associate Director of Communications and Strategic Planning at the Office of Management and Budget and Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at HUD. The New Orleans native also held stints as the National Press Secretary at the DNC and Communications Director for the House Judiciary Committee. The 2001 Florida A&M University graduate earned her Master’s degree from American University.
