FCC Chair Pushes Greater Oversight of Social Media and Tech Companies
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai on Tuesday published a blog post calling for greater oversight of major technology companies ahead of Facebook and Twitter’s congressional testimony today. Pai said he has concerns about the power the companies wield, combined with allegations that the industry is biased against conservatives. “Currently, the FCC imposes strict transparency requirements on companies that operate broadband networks — how they manage their networks, performance characteristics, and the like,” Pai wrote. “Yet consumers have virtually no insight into similar business practices by tech giants. … issues of online transparency, privacy, and free expression raise the question of public oversight.” See Pai’s full post here.
