For years the image of who drives change in our democracy has reflected an old narrative of straight white men in smoky rooms.

The Beat DC blows through that trope.

We’re the only daily political news platform that highlights the people of color driving policy in the nation’s capital and beyond, and the policies that impact communities of color at large.

Barack Obama Heads to Philly

Former President Barack Obama is heading to Philadelphia on Friday -- a state he won twice. The former president will stump for reelection campaigns for Governor Tom Wolf and Senator Bob Casey. The rally will be held on Friday afternoon at the Dell Music Center. Casey and Wolf are both leading independent polls comfortably over two Republican challengers aligned with Donald Trump, who will be holding his own rally in the battleground state next Tuesday. Last month, Obama released a wave of 81 endorsements. The list included governors, congressmen, senators, and 40 candidates at the state level. Obama began his midterm campaigning earlier this month and also plans to stop in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City, among other places. His full campaign schedule is still taking shape and more events are expected. Later this month, he will hold a fundraiser in New York City for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, a group led by his former AG Eric Holder that is focused on redrawing gerrymandered maps that have helped cement Republican control in Washington and at state level. More here.
