Allan Fung Emerges as GOP Gubernatorial Candidate in Rhode Island
Cranston Mayor Allan Wai-Ket Fung has won the Republican nomination for the second time for Governor of Rhode Island, setting himself up for a rematch of the 2014 gubernatorial race against incumbent Democratic Governor Gina Raimondo. In 2008, he was elected as the first Chinese American Mayor in the history of Rhode Island. Fung was previously a litigation attorney at a Providence law firm, a criminal prosecutor in the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit of the RI Attorney General’s Office, Government Affairs Counsel for MetLife, and At-Large City Councilman. The Providence native is the son of immigrants from Hong Kong. The first in his family to go to college, he is a graduate of Rhode Island College and Suffolk University Law School. More here.
