Google Taps CAP VP to Lead Outreach to Progressives
Michele Jawando is heading to Google to lead outreach to progressive groups. She will be leaving her post as Vice President of Legal Progress at the Center for American Progress (CAP) and a Senior Adviser for the Center for American Progress Action Fund. At CAP, she became the co-host of the podcast Thinking CAP, a 30-minute weekly news and politics podcast. Prior to joining the Center for American Progress, the Queens, NY native was the General Counsel and Senior Advisor to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) where she was responsible for a wide portfolio of policy issues pertaining to the federal judiciary and nominations, voting rights, women and labor issues, LGBT issues, education, and more. Additionally, she was responsible for leading some of the office’s landmark work, including the passage of the 9/11 health bill, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and the confirmation of Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. Before that, Michele served as the National Campaign Manager for Election Protection and Legislative Counsel at the People For the American Way Foundation. The 2002 Hampton University graduate, who went on to study law at the University of North Carolina, began her career in public service as a Fellow under Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-NY).
