Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wants a New Congressional Progressive Caucus
Democratic New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a new podcast released on Monday suggested a new "sub-Caucus" for progressive members of the House who want to wield increased influence by creating a voting bloc. While speaking on a podcast published by Jacobin Magazine, Ocasio-Cortez said a smaller progressive group could "generate real power. ... The thing that gives the caucus power is that you can operate as a bloc vote in order to get things done," Ocasio-Cortez said. There is already a 78-member Congressional Progressive Caucus -- which is co-chaired by Congressmen Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) and Mark Pocan (D-WI) -- but they often do not vote as a solid bloc. More here.
