For years the image of who drives change in our democracy has reflected an old narrative of straight white men in smoky rooms.

The Beat DC blows through that trope.

We’re the only daily political news platform that highlights the people of color driving policy in the nation’s capital and beyond, and the policies that impact communities of color at large.

Rubén Gallego and Colleen Hanabusa Pen POTUS45 Questioning His “Wisdom” and Ask for Strategy to Denuclearize NK

Congressman Rubén Gallego (D-AZ) and Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI) wrote to Donald Trump on Wednesday requesting details of the administration’s supposed strategy to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula within the next year, including whether Trump will consider the imposition of new sanctions or the resumption of military exercises with South Korea following reports that the Kim regime’s nuclear program has continued unabated. “Contrary to your assurances following the Singapore summit that there is ‘no longer a nuclear threat’ posed by North Korea, according to news reports, the regime’s nuclear activities appear to have continued unabated,” the members wrote. “This is alarming and calls into question the wisdom of your abrupt decision to end joint military exercises with South Korea.” Other signatories to the letter include Seth Moulton (D-MA), Jackie Speier (D-CA), Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), and Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH). North Korean officials ghosted U.S. military officials on Thursday and didn’t show up to a scheduled meeting about repatriating the remains of the war dead. The two sides had been expected to meet at the Korean Peninsula’s demilitarized zone and discuss the return of U.S. troop remains from the 1950-1953 war -- an arrangement the State Department had announced after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to Pyongyang last Friday and Saturday. Read the full letter.
