Kamala Harris Sides With Boycott and Cancels Berkeley Speech
Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) announced yesterday that she would not be speaking at UC Berkeley commencement due to an ongoing labor dispute. Thousands of employees across Berkeley, including custodians and security guards, began a three-day strike on Monday, which the labor union called for over a contract dispute amid calls on the university to address gender pay inequalities and provide higher wages. “Due to the ongoing labor dispute, Sen. Harris regretfully cannot attend and speak at this year’s commencement ceremony at UC Berkeley. She wishes the graduates and their families a joyous commencement weekend and success for the future. They are bright young leaders, and our country is counting on them,” her office said in a statement. More here.
