Meet Gregory Meeks’ Two Challengers
The race for New York’s 5th Congressional District, represented by Congressman Gregory Meeks (D), is getting more crowded heading into the June 26th primary. One of the two Democratic challengers is Carl Achille -- a child of Haitian immigrants, an Iraq war veteran, and criminal justice professional. The City University of New York at John Jay College of Criminal Justice graduate, who holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s from the school, most recently served as a local Civic Association President and as a past Vice President of the Elmont Chamber of Commerce. He also spent more than ten years in law enforcement, first as a patrol officer in Brooklyn, then a street narcotics enforcement officer in Harlem, and lastly as a Detective in the Organized Crime Control Bureau in the Gang Division. The second candidate challenging Meeks in the Democratic primary is Mizan Choudhury, an area business owner. Choudhury, a Bangladesh immigrant, previously worked as a busboy even once serving Donald Trump at Trump Tower complex. Choudhury completed his Master’s Degree from Dhaka University, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is CCIE certified from CISCO from the USA. He has worked in IT for Brioni’s, Verizon, New York Community Bank, Vodafone, and Northwell Health, where he currently works as an Operations Manager and manages a group of engineers. More here.
