CBC PAC Endorses White Incumbent Michael Capuano
The Congressional Black Caucus PAC has unanimously endorsed Congressman Michael Capuano (D-MA) -- a bold choice over progressive challenger and Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, who is Black. Congressman John Lewis (D-GA)voiced his support of the Democratic incumbent on Saturday while co-hosting a town hall with him in Boston, stating that Capuano’s experience and seniority were key to Democrats’ fight against the Trump administration. CBCPAC Chairman Gregory Meeks (D-NY) added in a statement that the group endorsed Capuano due to his long-standing relationship with CBC members. Additionally, Meeks said he believes that while increasing diversity in the House is important, new candidates should focus on unseating Republicans, not “a Democrat who has worked hard in the caucus.” Other factors considered included Capuano’s voting record against the Trump administration and his senior position on the House Financial Services Committee. “We have nothing against the challenger, but when you have a colleague that’s done the right thing for 20 years and has worked with you intimately, there’s not a reason for us to not endorse him,” said Meeks. “We know him.” Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), who serves with Capuano on the House Financial Services Committee, and former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick have also expressed their support for Capuano.More here.
