Steven Horsford Names Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief
NV Democratic Congressman-elect Steven Horsford has named Asha Jonesas his Chief of Staff and Jason Rodríguezas his Deputy Chief of Staff. Jones will be one of 21 African American women, out of 535 Chiefs of Staff, currently serving in that position in Congress. She most recently served as the Director of Government Affairs for the College of Southern Nevada, where she spearheaded the college’s legislative agenda. The George Mason University graduate was the Political Director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign and recently worked as the District Director for outgoing Congressman Rubén Kihuen (who Horsford is replacing). Jones also previously worked as former Senator Harry Reid’s Deputy State Director and as a district representative for former Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and a founding board member for the Las Vegas Urban League Young Professionals. Rodríguez recently served as the Director of the Promethean Project with the House Majority PAC, where he oversaw national persuasion programs across 44 swing districts that aided in the Democrats’ taking back control of Congress. The 2009 Northeastern University graduate previously worked with the American Nurses Association. In 2016, he served as the National Deputy Latino Vote Director for Hillary for America, where he oversaw the campaign’s battleground state Latino voter mobilization programs and managed outreach to federal, state, and local Latino elected officials. The Texas native has also worked with Standard & Poor’s and was a fundraising and political consultant, managing national fundraising for six members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
