Mia Love Takes Lead Over Democratic Challenger
Congresswoman Mia Love (R-UT) pulled ahead of her Democratic challenger, Salt Lake City Mayor Ben McAdams, by 419 votes as of Friday evening. With the two-term Congresswoman now claiming 50.1% of the vote -- a slim margin above McAdams at 49.9% -- it gives her the first lead since election night when the race was deemed too close to call. Love was chastised by Donald Trump, who declared in a news conference the day after the election that, "Mia Love gave me no love and she lost. Too bad. Sorry about that, Mia." Love’s lead came hours after a judge dismissed a lawsuit she filed last week attempting to stop vote counting in Salt Lake County to give her campaign the ability to challenge the verification process of ballot signatures. Thousands of provisional ballots remain uncounted, and Love’s current margin is well within the 0.25% necessary to trigger a recount in Utah. The state is expected to finalize the results of the race on November 26th. More here.
