Julián Castro Makes Moves Toward 2020 Presidential Bid
Former HUD Secretary and San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro has been meeting with donors and possible campaign staff ahead of a potential 2020 presidential bid. He and his twin brother, Congressman Joaquín Castro (D-TX), gathered supporters and donors in San Antonio on Monday. Castro's recent moves have included meetings and phone calls with prospective staff for a possible presidential campaign, including staffers in Iowa, and he has also spoken with lawyers about the "mechanics of launching a possible 2020 presidential campaign." Castro also brought together a group of Latino leaders in DC to talk about a 2020 campaign; he is likely the only Latinx to run for president. “The consensus was that Julián brings a lot to the table. He’s part of a new generation and most of the candidates who are talked about are not,” one participant told Politico. Castro is hitting the ground running. He will hold a fundraiser for his PAC, Opportunity First, in San Diego today. More here.
