Barack Obama and Eric Holder Head to Detroit
Former President Barack Obama heads to Detroit on Friday to rally with Democrats in an effort to enthuse voters and boost candidates ahead of midterm elections, and he’s bringing his former Attorney General Eric Holder with him. The pair is set to campaign with Senator Debbie Stabenow, gubernatorial nominee Gretchen Whitmer and her running mate Garlin Gilchrist, and congressional candidates Matt Longjohn (6th District), Gretchen Driskell (7th), Elissa Slotkin (8th) and Haley Stevens (11th). Holder, who now heads the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, is expected to vouch for Proposal 2 -- the Michigan ballot initiative to create an independent commission that would draw political boundaries every 10 years. Obama won the state of Michigan during both of his 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. Last week, Donald Trump, Jr. and Kid Rock rallied for African American Republican senatorial candidate, John James, who is taking on Stabenow. More here.
